Ultimate Tablet Optimization

08.42

There are so many tablets to choose from now that selecting the right ones is quite hard process!
This comprehensive guide classes the best tablets in 3 categories with a brief descriptions.  All other tablets are fair or worst, or simply too situational, so they are not even
Any hero built picking any of the following tablet is great.  These are the best of the best, and picking the right one only depends on the hero and role you want (and like) to play.  As a rule of thumb,
physical carry will use
– 2 to 3 Carry tablets
– 0 to 1 tank tablet
– 0 to 1 support tablet

bruiser/tank will use (they have the most variable tablet build selection)
– 0 to 2 Carry tablets
– 0 to 2 Tank tablets
– 0 to 2 Support tablets

A mage carry will use
– 1 to 2 Carry tablets
– 0 to 2 Tank tablets
– 0 to 2 Support tablets

support will use
– 1 to 2 Tank tablets
– 1 to 2 Support tablets

Understanding the classification for this guide:
Please note that the color of the tablet (red, blue or green) IS NOT always an indication of the tablet type.  For example, although Rage tablet is red, it is more a defensive tablet, providing more survivability and resilience.

Offensive Tablets

They are oriented to help you kill your target as quickly as possible by increasing your normal attack or burst skill damage.

Tablet

Desire

Description: Increases your your Physical and Magical Attack by 12.5% of the damage you receive. Can’t be higher than 50. Lasts 5 seconds.
Comment: This tablet is one of the best carry tablet, specially for melee heroes.  It provides great value throughout the whole game.  Its only requirement is that you need to receive damage.

Tablet

Bloodlust:

Description: Your hero’s Physical and Magical Attack are increased by 3% for every hero (both ally and enemy) within 15 meters.
Comment: This is one of the best carry tablet.  Early game, its value is minimal, but quickly ramp up toward mid to end game.

Tablet

Battlelust:

Description: When you slay an enemy by yourself, all other enemies wihin 5 meters of it will receive 8 times your level in Damage. Enemies killed by Damage from this tablet do not trigger its effects.
Comment: A bit of an “underdog” carry tablet, this new one can deal massive damage for heroes with AoE burst. If an enemy is standing in the middle of a wave and you can clear the wave in a single blow, the enemy will receive multiple times that damage burst.  Very interesting on heroes like Daliana, Elf, goroshia, etc.  Keep in mind that this is physical damage, good for mages but better for physical heroes.

Tablet

Piercing:

Description: Ignore 50% of the target’s Physical and Magical Defenses. Can be triggered once for every 5 of your hero’s normal attacks and only once every 3 seconds
Comment: This is one excellent carry tablet to have.  In average, the bonus it provides is about 5 to 10% more DPS, depending of the enemy armor.

Tablet

Whispering:

Description: Each time you use a skill, your Magical Attack and Physical Attack will be increased by 3% and MP cost of skills will be reduced by 3%. Effect can stack up to 5 times. If another skill is used when it reached its maximum capacity, then the effect resets to 0.
Comment: This tablet provides an “average” benefit of 7.5% increase DPS.  Early game, it is of little value, but end game it can be quite interesting.  Works best on hero with few skills that can easily manage the counter before bursting its maximum DPS (like Inquisitor).

Defensive Tablets:

They are oriented to give protection, help you survive when being focused, giving your more resilience by increasing armor or HP, or through damage reduction.

Tablet

Desecration:

Description: Each time you slay an enemy by yourself, your Max HP will be permanently increased by 5 points, to a Max HP of 360
Comment: It takes 72 kills of any type (hero, neutral, minion) to get its maximum bonus. This tablet is one of the most used tablet for laners and junglers, and one of the best tank ones.  Normally, by mid-game, a hero with this tablet already has its full benefit.  It gives in average a 1-3 hits survivability (about 10% more HP and up to 20% if maxed early in game).

Tablet

Protective:

Description:  When receiving damage that causes your HP to drop below 20%, grants a shield that absorbs damage equal to 20 x Hero Level + 5% of Max HP, lasts for 7 seconds. Cannot be triggered twice within 3 minutes.
Comment: Excellent tablet giving a great shield boost.  This shield represent about 70HP early game to 450HP on a full geared tank (1-3 hits survivability).  Normally, you can approximate its value to about the same as Desecration tablet when transitioning to mid game.  But this one only pop once every 3 minutes, diminishing slightly the return bonus compared to Desecration.

Tablet

Courage:

Description: Upon being stunned or silenced, all damage received would be reduced by (15 + Your level) % for 5 seconds.
Comment: There are so much stuns and silence in this game that this tablet has a trememdous value. Reducing 15 to 30% any damage received represent that same amount in “resilience” HP.  Excellent on tanks or heroes that are “in the melee” in the fight.  If focused in a team fight, it can give you up to 30% more resilience, or equivalent to 3-6 more hits.

Tablet

Soul Eating:

Description:  Each time you slay an enemy by yourself, in the following 3 seconds, all direct Damage you receive will be reduced by 30% and your Movement Speed will be increased by 20% for 3 seconds.
Comment: As Courage, this buff is simply fantastic.  Heroes that can AoE burst while in fight can keep this tablet almost always on.  It procs on ANYTHING you kill, from neutral, creep, heroes, wards, tower, dragon, etc.  Makes it easy for engaging and disengaging combat, plus having this nice damage reduction is outstanding.  Very good for tanks like Joombra/12B, Sia, or carry heroes like Elf, chameleon, Daliana etc.

Tablet

Elder:

Description: Increases your Physical Defense by 12% of Magical Attack.
Comment: This is one of the best tank tablets for range mage carry like Guervus, Vigelos, Phase, and even Goroshia.  Since they pack a lot of magical attack, they get a lot of physical defense from this.  Standing in the back, tends to have less stuns/silence, so this is a great replacement for courage.

Tablet

Immortality:

Description: Increases all healing effects on you by 40% if your HP is at or under 20%
Comment: This tablet lost its lush after an update a year ago.  Still, for heroes that pack lots of HP heal/harvest (like Joombra or Marithus), this tablet shines.  Its bonus stacks multiplicatively to the Fast Healer talent (guardian) making it even better.  It also procs when leveling up (with Surprise).  Its only downside is the 20% HP mark, which is very low, so you have to live “on the edge”.

Tablet

Rage:

Description: Each time you slay an enemy, you regenerate 3% of your Max HP (reduced effect for AoE victims).
Comment: Very good tablet for players that want to stay longer in lane.  Particularity popular amongs Fighter/Guardian builds which lacks of the Surprise effect.  Veru nice for fighter carries on red lane buff on Rift, and tanks that can clear a creep wave quick.

Tablet

Purity:

Description:Reduces all damage received by 10% when your HP is below or at 50%
Comment: This one has lost its shine long ago.  The fact that it is effective only below 50% HP, and reduce by 10% the damage received makes it of lesser value.  Still a decent choice for a tank with lots of HP and defense.

Support Tablet

They are oriented to provide general utility to the user and the team by increasing temporarily stats (speed, rege, gold, xp, etc) or bring a team support characteristics.

Tablet

Assistance:

Description: Decrease the Cooldown Time of “Teleport” by 36 seconds. The target you teleport to will receive a shield, absorbing damage equal to (100 + 10%% target’s Max HP) at most. The target will be healed according to the remaining HP of the shield when you successfully Teleport. This effect cannot be triggered twice within 3 minutes or on buildings.
Comment: Of course, this is the signature tablet for any hero lvl 40.  Only main carry could replace it for something else. The “bug” about this tablet is, upon completing the teleport on your target, if the shield is not fully depleted, the hero will be healed the FULL amount of the shield, and not the remaining part.  And it is even more interesting when multiple allies are porting on the same person at the same time. A must have in any competitive game.  But the CD is rather very long, and should not be wasted!

Tablet

Malignity:

Description: Increase the duration of “Sneak” to 6 seconds. Plus, when you’re out of an invisible state, all damage done to you will be decreased by 20%; lasts 5 seconds. This effect can only be triggered once per minute.
Comment: Only good if you pick the “sneak” profile skill.  But heroes with invisibility skills like Cham, Laurelai, Kortav and elf can make that tablet’s damage decrease proc too! Interesting choice for them.

Tablet

Favor:

Description: When you are healed, an ally with the lowest HP within 10 meters will also receive 40% of this effect.
Comment: Very good tablet if your team has a fox or goblin.  Excellent on Joombra, as its Ocular Torment skill is now a heal.  Could be also an interesting pick for Marithus, which can heal very fast thanks to its harvest ability.

Tablet

Merciful Words:

Description: Each time you perform an assist, you will receive an extra 8% Gold and XP. Each time you slay an enemy or perform an assist, you will recover 8% HP and MP
Comment: One of the most interesting new tablet.  That bonus gold represent about 8 to 50 gold per assist, and makes any support hero more valuable (lvl faster).  Plus, you recover some HP/MP, excellent pick!

Tablet

Rejuvenation:

Description: All allied heroes within 12 meters and whose MP is below 30% will recover MP equal to 3 times the allied hero’s level per second.
Comment: This tablet is awesome early to mid game, but unfortunately rarely used.  When dual laning, a support with this tablet can keep the carry always up in MP.  The regen is simply fantastic.  But this tablet tends to fall off late game as MP is not an issue anymore.  Does not work on the user.

Tablet

Jaguar:

Description: Upon leaving a bush, your Movement SPeed is increased by 15% for 3 seconds. This effect is removed if you receive any type of attack.
Comment: Very effective tablet for train map, as there are many bushes.  Very good for initiator heroes like Sia and gambler.

Tablet

Toxicity:

Description:  Deal (12 X Caster’s Level) damage to attackers when they use skills that damage to your hero. This effect is triggered once every 3 seconds.
Comment: This toxicity damage is True Damage, and cannot be reduced by armor.  This makes a tank hero (joombra, 12B, sia, valox, etc), receiving lots of skills, giving back deadly feedback damage.  Interesting choice. As it is also considered a “skill damage”, it synergies very well for heroes building Fername (slows your attackers).

Inscriptions:

Just one quick word about inscriptions, as it is related with this topic.
Among all inscriptions, these are the recommended ones (in order of priority)

Physical Carry:

Order: Pierce Through Physical, Physical attack
Chaos: Crit Damage, Crit rate

Every Other Role:

Order: Max HP, Physical Defense
Chaos: Pierce Through Magical, Harvest/Leech

Mathematically, all other inscriptions are proven of less value.  You could also mix up these inscriptions (e.g. Pierce through physical + harvest) if it fits the role you want to achieve.
You can have about any Chaos inscription for tanks/support.  There are basically none that stand up the melee.  This is why I recommend using Pierce Through Magical.  Very good for mages, supports (almost all mage based), and some of the most meaningful tanks (joombra, sia)
And Silver inscriptions are great, no need to spend all your emblems on Gold.  The difference between Silver and Gold is minimal.  What really matters is having the right inscriptions!
