Ultimate Fighter Itemization

08.44

With the new update 1.8, Gameloft improved and modified most fighter items. Beside 2 items (Ripper and King Killer), every item is now balanced in term of DPS boost and stats for their price.
Thus, from this version 1.8, there is no more Optimal Build for fighter, sorry!
But that does not mean you can build anything at any moment. In fact, building the wrong item order can potentially hurt you more now than before. One experienced player can discover (intuitively or not) the best way to itemize while keeping your DPS high. But it is now non-trivial to do so.
So, I offer you all the Ultimate Fighters Itemization Guide, a set of rules to help you choose builds for the best in-game effectiveness (DPS and utility)

Fighter Itemization Rules

  1. Build Pure Damage
  2. Build Attack Speed
  3. Build Utility
  4. Build DPS/Utility

General Considerations:

  1. As you will notice, I will not talk about defensive or mobility items. The reason is simple: choosing the right moment (if any) to buy armor and boots strickly depends on how the game unfolds. And selecting the right armor depends on your enemy (this will be part of another Itemization guide!).
  2. I present only a 4-carry items selection. If your team is very fed and you can afford a 5th carry item, pick any of the step 4 ones that will complement your build.
  3. Anyone that follow these purchase rules will build right in almost every situation for all heroes. There are minor variations possible (like buying components from next item earlier). But these are exceptions that wont be detailed here.

Step 0 (optional)

Items

Ripper (1500g)

+24Atk, +15%AtkSpd, passive: DoT 5 sec dealing 3xLVL physical dmg
The Ripper is the best DPS increase item you can get early game. For that price, you have almost a free DoT for 5 seconds dealing 3xLVL dmg to your enemy. This passive does not stack if you have many allies with it, nor refresh every hit. This step is mainly for melee carries (like Daliana, Savaer, Chameleon, Kagax, etc.) and range heroes. Not ideal for Inquisitor or Lebmont as their skill sets are focused for pure damage.
This step is optional. One could go straight for the rest of the itemization with great results too. This item will need to be sold and replaced mid to late game for a higher DPS one.

Step 1: Pure Damage Item

Items

Longbow of Shadow (3200g)

+80Atk, passive: pierce 30% physical def
This is the best first completed item to get for maximum DPS, even though the passive is still less valued as enemy have not yet bought armor usually. A must-have in every late game build.
Longbow

Jade Axe (3500g)

+64Atk, passive: reduce enemy armor 10+2xLVL
Jade is on paper less efficient in DPS than Longbow at any single point in game, for 300 more gold. It is a common misconception to think it is better early game… almost! Where this item shines is that the debuff is applied on the enemy for 3 seconds, where EVERY physical ally can benefit from it. So, in that sense, Jade Axe is an excellent first item for carries when the team is built around a couple of physical bruisers like Donovac, Balondis, Cyclop, Valox. It is also excellent on Paladin as his rush debuffs also enemy armor by 10, which stacks with Jade Axe debuff.
TIP: If the team includes a main physical carry and an off-carry physical, make the main carry buy Longbow and the off-carry buy Jade axe first.
NOTE: Damages are calculated by first applying every Armor Reduction (jade, paladin rush, etc), then applying any pierce armor (longbow, talents, inscriptions, etc). Armor Reduction CAN DROP enemy armor below zero, giving bonus damage. Pierce armor only pierce what remains after reduction, so cannot drop below zero.
Longbow

Claymore (2300g)

+80Atk
One could decide to build Claymore for 2300g instead of Longbow for same stats without passive effect, saving 900g. While this is an excellent choice, holding back that sum of gold early game might not be ideal. All small increases like Facebreaker or Serpentine Pike (both needed for Longbow) will make you more efficient at farming and ganking. But on train map, this could be a more viable choice as train gives you 350g, a large sum for a main carry. Good choice following the Ripper’s initial purchase.

Step 2: Build Up Attack Speed

Inquisitor and Lebmont can skip this step. Their main skill damage are based on their pure physical attack and thus, don’t always need that attack speed increase.
Longbow

Watcher’s Whisper (2900g)

+80%AtkSpd, passive: 40% (25%range) chance slow 30% for 2 sec on hit
With the recent update, Watcher’s Whisper is now a great item, even for mage carries. Its passive gives an excellent CC effect while the boost of attack speed enables to unleash the full potential of these pure dmg items.
Longbow

Arkhan Cutlass (4000g)

+45Atk, +45%AtkSpd, +12%CritRate, passive: +30Atk when below 35%HP
This is a great all around item for a fair price now. The cost of the components and reciepe are quite high, making it sometimes more tricky to build. It gives you a nice passive too.
Longbow

Firebow (3300g)

+35Atk, +50%AtkSpd, +4%CritRate, passive: AoE blast 40dmg on hit for range heroes
Falsy known as the “noob bow”, this item gives everything you need at that point: damage, attack speed, and a free AoE damage (value wise). This is a great upgrade for range heroes that opted for the Ripper initially (Nutt, Aria, Elf). Note that once upgraded, you loose the DoT effect on the target you are hitting, and the AoE blast does not damage the target either.

Step 3: Get Your Utility Up

Now that you have both damage and attack speed, it is time to build the utility items that fills the gap in the build
Longbow

Divinity Sword (3250g)

+50Atk, +20%AtkSpd, +10%harvest, passive: 15% (10% range) chance of stun 1 sec
While lowering your effective DPS by 10-20% compared to other item choices, this item is great. It gives a nice boost of harvest and chance of stunning the enemy. Stunning the enemy usually means you win the 1v1 fight. But to be meaningful, you need that attack speed built before the Divinity. Fits perfectly in a harvest oriented build.
Longbow

Reaper’s Glove (3700g)

+45Atk, +15%AtkSpd, +15%Harvest, active: increase attack speed 50% for 10 sec and take 15% more dmg
This item has a high price tag for its value. But once you hit that active, you attack speed increase so much that it becomes for that 10 sec period an very good item. Fits perfectly a harvest oriented build. Hopefully the active has a short 60sec CD, making it able to use in almost every team fights.
Longbow

King Killer (4500g)

+90Atk, +25%CritRate, passive: +25% CritDmg
This is the highest brute damage item of the game. Because it cost so much, hard to build and means nothing if other above steps aren’t done, it should be built later in game. The crit rate and crit damage are simply amazing.
Longbow

Watcher’s Whisper (if you don’t have it)

Unleash that attack speed and slow proc!

 Longbow

Firebow (if you don’t have it)

Good upgrade to Ripper instead of selling it at this point.

Step 4-5: Increase Your DPS/Utility

In this step, about every late game item choice is good, as long as it fits the playstyle of the hero and your role.
Longbow

Arkhan Cutlass

All rounded item, always goo, specially if you don’t have it yet.

 Longbow

King Killer

Pure brute damage ftw! Nothing can beat the DPS boost that KK provides, even if it is your 2nd one.
 Longbow

Longbow (if you don’t have it)

You need to have a Longbow or Jade Axe in EVERY late game build.
 Longbow

Reaper’s Glove (if you don’t have it)

Increase that harvest!
 Longbow

Divinity Sword (if you don’t have it)

For the harvest and stun!
 Longbow

Watcher’s Whisper (if you don’t have it)

Nothing more to add!

Happy gaming!
